Cinderella Kids Background Information

bulletHistory of the Cinderella Story - the story of Cinderella probably originated in a tale from ninth century China, but this fairy tale exists in many cultures throughout the world. They range from the Brothers Grim tale of "Ash Girl" to the Nigerian tale of "The Maiden, the Frog and the Chief's Son". The one that most of us in the western world are familiar with was produced by Disney and was based on French author Charles Perrault's "Cendrillon".

bulletCinderella Kids Synopsis - Cinderella lives with her mean stepmother and 2 stepsisters, but is treated as a servant in her own home. She waits on them all day long and never has a moment to herself. The local king sends out an announcement for a ball and invites all the unmarried young ladies to come and meet Prince Charming, his bachelor son. Cinderella asks her stepmother if she can attend, and is told if she finishes all her chores she can. As the ball approaches, her stepsisters pile on the chores and also destroy her dress, made by her animal friends such as the mice, birds and various other animals she feeds each day. A magical fairy godmother appears and saves the day by creating a beautiful ball gown and a carriage to take her to the ball. At the ball, the prince is disappointed to see that none of the young ladies are to his liking, but suddenly Cinderella appears and she and Prince Charming dance the night away. At midnite, she dashes from the ball before the magic spell of her fairy godmother ends, leaving behind a glass slipper. The prince is devastated to have lost touch with his dream girl, and searches the kingdom for the owner of the glass slipper. He eventually finds her and they live happily ever after.

bulletThe Cinderella Kids version is an abbreviated version of the full musical. It preserves the fun and beauty of the original while adapting to the voices and talents of a middle school aged cast.
